Saturday February 20, 2010 Country Tradition opens for Marty Haggard 7pm Marty Haggard was born in Bakersfield, California. As a child, Marty was influenced greatly by his Grandma Haggard and his dad, Merle Haggard, who Marty proudly calls "the greatest singer songwriter ever." One of Marty's songs, "The Apple," makes reference to his dad's influence. While Marty may have inherited some of his talent, his musical style and songs are distinctive and reflective as that of his own. After a lifetime in the music industry, Marty is at a comfortable point in his career, professing his faith in God through his Christian appearances while still enjoying the country shows and singing the songs which have been so much a part of his life. In 1979, Haggard began his formal career as a country music singer and toured with his own band. In 1981, he signed with Dimension Records and cut his first single, "Charleston Cotton Mill." He traveled with his dad's band from 1983 to 1985. In 1986, Haggard signed with MTM Records. It released "Trains Make Me Lonesome," which won him a nomination by the Academy of Country Music as Top New Male Vocalist. In 1988, he was being acknowledged as one of the hottest up and coming stars. In 1995, Haggard signed with the Critique/BMG label. Critique released both the album Borders & Boundaries and the single, "Amnesia," in 1996. In 1998 Marty formed Marty Haggard Music and in 2000 released two albums, "Ready or Not" and "The Bridge". Marty has appeared over seven times on Nashville Now, four times on the Trinity Broadcasting Network, five times on Music City Tonight, ten times on Crook & Chase, and two times at the Grand Ole Opry. He has also appeared on The Today Show and been featured in People Magazine.
